Stimulation of the Regional Lymph Node by Incomplete Freund´s Adjuvant

Abstract
|
|
|
The experiment was carried out to ascertain the effect of incomplete Freund´s adjuvant to the lymph node.
Incomplete Freund´s adjuvant was injected subcutaneously into the dorsal foot-pad of the rabbit ana the draining popliteal lymph node was removed, 3, 7, 10, 15, and 20 days after the injection. The lymph nodes were examined histologically with hematoxylin-eosin and methylgreen-pyronin stainings. And following conclusions were obtained.
1. The regional lymph node shows marked proliferation, chiefly of "large pyroninophilic cells", with the injection of incomplete Freund´s adjuvant.
2. This proliferative response could be explained by the non-specific resonses due to the direct stimulation of the incomplete Freund´s adjuvant or by the specific responses due to the possible autoimmune mechanism induced by the degenerated tissue at the site of injection.
